Protein identification (from 1-DE, 2-DE gels and liquid)

The dream of having the complete genome sequence is now a reality. The complete sequence of several genomes including the human one is known. However, the understanding of probably half a million human proteins encoded by some 23'000 genes is still a long way away and the hard work to unravel the complexity of biological systems is yet to come.

The heart of this new approach is the simultaneous separation of thousand of polypeptides using either electrophoresis or liquid chromatography techniques their further identification combining high-throughput mass spectrometry analysis to powerful bioinformatic tools. The Geneva Proteomics Core Facility provides 3 identification services to which you may send your samples for analysis. These services include tryptic digestion from 1-DE, 2-DE and liquid samples. The peptide mixtures can be then analysed by three alternative workflows: Maldi Tof-Tof, NanoLC - Maldi Tof-Tof and NanoLC - ESI-MS/MS.
